Google Meet Is Making Video Calls Easier With ‘New’ Meeting Button: Know More

Oct 09, 2024

Google has introduced a significant update to its video calling platform, Google Meet, featuring a redesigned interface and a new ‘New’ button. The updated call screen streamlines frequently used tools during calls, while the ‘New’ button offers options to create a new meeting, schedule one, or create a group, and also displays contacts for instant calling.

This updated layout replaces the previous design, providing a cleaner and more user-friendly experience. The ‘New’ button is located at the bottom right of the Google Meet home screen. Clicking on it opens a revamped ‘Start a Call’ screen with three options at the top — Create A New Meeting, Schedule In Google Calendar and Create Group, presented in a pill-shaped box.

Additional features include ‘Suggestions,’ which replaces the previous list-based interface with a grid of current contacts, allowing users to make frequent calls with a single tap. A dedicated ‘Code’ option has been added to the search bar, enabling users to join meetings using access codes, making it convenient for pre-arranged calls.

Notably, these new features are available in Google Meet Version 266, exclusively for Android smartphone users. This update reflects Google's continuous efforts to enhance the user experience on Google Meet.

If you’re unable to access the latest updates, you can update your app from the Google Play Store.

Recently, the tech giant also introduced ‘Gemini,’ an AI-powered feature called ‘Take Notes For Me,’ which allows users to ask the app to take notes during meetings. However, this feature is currently limited to Google Workspace customers.

Additionally, Google Meet now supports the ability to use both the inner and outer cameras of the Google Pixel Fold, the company’s first flagship foldable smartphone, simultaneously during video calls. However, this feature is exclusive to the Pixel Fold, which is priced at Rs 1,72,999 in India.

In related news, Google recently launched an AI-powered feature called ‘Summary Card’ for Gmail, designed to streamline the email reading experience. The feature helps users navigate emails more efficiently, addressing the common issue of losing track of important dates, invoices, and bookings spread across multiple apps. ‘Summary Card’ is available for both iOS and Android users.
